Having fulfilling, useful and esteemed employment, finding a clear structure in everyday life is not only a requirement for handicapped people. But these criteria are particularly important for them and they are offered in the residential home and workshop, and also in other company branches such as in viticulture, farm estate, in the dairy, lingerie and restaurant. In all, there are about 60 protected jobs available. Around half are taken up by home residents. Around 30 supported persons come to their protected job in Ittingen Charterhouse from outside.

During work hours, the supported employees are supported, accompanied and encouraged by a mentor from their field of activity. Four to six protected jobs are available primarily for young people for a measure initiated and supported by the IV (Swiss Invalidity Insurance). Currently, there are apprenticeships in the areas of market gardening and landscape gardening.
Employees and supported persons ensure the maintenance of buildings, furniture, machines, devices and fittings in the different workshops and departments.

Ten to twelve persons are employed with shipment and packing tasks and different orders from trade and industry in our packing department. The area in and around the monastery grounds are maintained and looked after by a separate department. These include the management and cultivation of the banks of Lake Nussbaum which belongs to Ittingen Charterhouse. From the trout farm, which is designed naturally and according to biological guidelines, fresh fish are supplied to the kitchen and monastery shop. We prepare fuel wood primarily from our own forest for a broad range of customers.

The market garden which also produces organically, supplies vegetables, salad produce and berries to the hotel kitchen. In accordance with the monastery tradition, tea and herbs are grown and processed as specialities. Unmixed or as finely tuned mixes, they come to the kitchen and monastery shop fresh or dried. Herbs, tea, different medicinal plants etc. are sold as pot plants.

Our florist produces the natural flower decorations for the monastery premises or also at the request of banquet guests, customers or visitors. And our platform is of course also online in English. Here, different pottery is produced for use or for decoration. Pots that we manufacture ourselves are filled with plants in the market garden and garnished. Garlands and products from felt or home-made paper round off a versatile production portfolio.
