Hop Route 4

Hop nature trail through the middle of the hop garden.

In Kartause Ittingen, two hop varieties grow on a cultivation area of 1.8 ha, the aroma hop varieties Hallertauer Tradition and Perle. The entire yield is used for Ittingen Amber beer.

The hop garden is located to the west of the monastery grounds directly next to the car park. In 1982, the Kartause Ittingen Foundation, together with the Actienbrauerei Frauenfeld, developed the "Original Ittinger Klosterbräu" for serving at Kartause Ittingen and in the region. With the support of Heineken Switzerland, the nationwide success story of this popular premium beer began, which is now successfully distributed throughout Switzerland in the retail trade and gastronomy.

Ittingen Amber beer was never brewed in Kartause Ittingen. Initially brewed at the Actienbrauerei Frauenfeld, it is now brewed in Lucerne - with 100% hops from Kartause Ittingen.
