Pavillon grosser Kreuzgarten im Frühling

Janet Cardiff's "Ittingen Walk" turns space and time into a sensory experience.

A very special walking experience is on offer at the Kunstmuseum Thurgau: the Ittingen Walk by Janet Cardiff.

Armed with headphones and playback devices, the audience embarks on a tour of the monastery and experiences the place in a whole new way.

Using stories, noises and sounds, the Canadian artist leads participants into a fictional space that expands the visible world, creating a parallel reality. Drawing on the monastery itself, its former inhabitants and its current use, she creates her own narrative, telling of silence and meditation, as well as longing and strangeness.

Past and present elements – such as aircraft noise and the silence of the Carthusian monks, and the noise of war and the historic Ittingen storm – blend together to create an engaging narrative interwoven with a seductive love story.

Simply ask for the Ittingen Walk ticket at the museum ticket office. The 19-minute tour is included in the museum's standard admission price of CHF 10/7 (reduced).
