This concert listens upwards. Not loudly. It is not demanding. It listens to the bird that says nothing. The motet that asks no questions. It listens to the memory that remains, even when no one is there anymore. It listens to a dove that knows no language. To a bee that buzzes because it is alive. It listens to a flower in the rose garden. It listens to a landscape in America where someone is getting married, hoping that everything will be all right. Heavenward means not knowing, but hearing. It is not searching, but noticing that something is there. Perhaps above us. Perhaps within us.
