Hop Route ⋅ 4

Hop trail through the hop garden.
Two varieties of hops — Hallertauer Tradition and Perle — are cultivated on 1.8 hectares of land at Kartause Ittingen. The entire yield is used to make Ittinger Amber beer.
The hop garden is located to the west of the monastery complex, next to the car park.
In 1982, Kartause Ittingen Foundation collaborated with Actienbrauerei Frauenfeld brewery to develop "Original Ittinger Klosterbräu", which was served at Kartause Ittingen and in the surrounding area. With the support of Heineken Switzerland, this popular premium beer began its journey to nationwide success, and today it is distributed throughout Switzerland in retail outlets and restaurants.
Ittinger Amber Beer has never been brewed at Kartause Ittingen. Initially brewed at the Actienbrauerei Frauenfeld brewery, it is now brewed in Lucerne using 100% Kartause Ittingen hops.
