Taking on responsibility as a grant-making foundation

Grant-making foundations play a vital role in preserving and developing the Kartause Ittingen further. They fund specific projects, support long-term initiatives and offer planning certainty.

The Kartause Ittingen Foundation collaborates with grant-making foundations whose mission aligns with its charitable objectives. We would be happy to present our current projects, budgets and necessary documentation to you.

What your donation helps to support:

The Kartause Ittingen Foundation is responsible for the long-term preservation and charitable management of the Kartause Ittingen.

We use our funding contributions primarily for the following purposes:

  • Preservation and restoration of historic buildings

  • Protection of roofs and historically protected structures

  • Fire safety upgrades to historic facilities

  • Maintenance of historic gardens and cultural landscapes

  • Promotion of biodiversity and sustainable landscape management

  • Social inclusion and meaningful work, where these tasks fall within the Foundation’s remit

  • Necessary infrastructure to fulfil the Foundation’s purpose

  • Discretionary contributions to the Foundation’s charitable mission

The Kunstmuseum Thurgau and the Ittinger Museum at Kartause Ittingen are independent partners of the Kartause Ittingen Foundation. They are two of a total of six cantonal museums in Thurgau. Both museums are responsible for their own exhibitions, educational programmes and fundraising. We coordinate funding requests for these tasks with the relevant institutions.

Clearly planned grant projects.

A grant proposal must be substantively justified, realistically planned and financially transparent.

Depending on the scope of the project, we will provide the following information:

  • Current situation and specific need for action

  • Project objective

  • Planned measures

  • Responsibilities and project organisation

  • Timeline

  • Project budget and financing plan

  • Own funds and other financial contributions

  • Expected results

  • Follow-up costs and long-term sustainability

  • Form and timing of reporting

We tailor our documentation to the requirements of the respective funding foundation. At the same time, we ensure that the effort involved, the grant amount and the reporting requirements are proportionate to one another.

Types of Support

Granting foundations can support the Kartause Ittingen in various ways:

  • Contribution to a clearly defined project

  • Funding for a project phase

  • Investment contribution

  • Multi-year funding commitment

  • Contribution to a long-term initiative

  • Discretionary or broadly applicable funding for the foundation’s mission

  • Participation in joint funding with other donors

Before submitting an application, we will clarify whether the project aligns with your foundation’s mission. We will also review the formal requirements and explain the decision-making process. This ensures that your application is consistent with your foundation’s funding practices.

Reliable Use and Reporting

We use grant funds in accordance with their agreed purpose. We set out responsibilities, payment terms and reporting requirements in writing.

Throughout the project period, we will keep you informed about progress, important developments and any deviations. Once the project is complete, you will receive a report detailing the work carried out and how the funds were used. For large-scale or multi-year projects, we will arrange interim reports and in-person meetings.
