This is an excerpt from the foundation deed, dated 20 April 1977.
The foundation's aim is to preserve the historic complex by purchasing and restoring the Ittingen Charterhouse, and running it as a largely self-sustaining cultural centre.
To this end, the foundation runs a seminar and catering business, provides supervised work and accommodation, operates a workshop and manages an estate. It also enables the canton of Thurgau to run the Ittingen Museum and the Thurgau Art Museum (Kunstmuseum Thurgau).
Accommodation, employment and reintegration opportunities are provided for people with disabilities through assisted living and work.
Historic monument of national importance
The Ittingen Charterhouse is one of the most important cultural monuments in the Lake Constance region. Since 1983, the former Carthusian monastery has been a cultural and conference centre offering a wide range of activities. Here, monastic values such as culture, spirituality, education, care, hospitality and self-sufficiency come together to create something truly unique.
The Kunstmuseum Thurgau, the Ittinger Museum and the tecum Centre for Education and Spirituality are partner organisations that complement the historic complex with their offerings, transforming it into a cultural venue with supra-regional appeal.
